A fully nonlinear equation takes the form

F(u, Du, \ldots, D^k u) = 0

for some nonlinear function F. By differentiating this equation once and working with the system v: = (u,Du) one can convert this equation to a quasilinear equation at the cost of reducing the regularity of the fields by one.
